Uncompromising High-definition: The New Video Management System by TRUMPF

On the occasion of the MEDICA 2011, TRUMPF Medical Systems will be unveiling its newest product, “TruVidia Manager” – a high-performance, easy-to-use video management system for the operating room. “Digitization is continuing its advance in the operating room. That includes distribution of the video signals which – in the meantime – have become numerous, documentation of surgery, and communications with the world outside the OR.” That is how Dr. Tim Schwebel, Product Manager at TRUMPF, describes hospitals’ current demands. “Video and audio data have to be recorded, archived and transmitted – and that at unvaryingly high quality levels. By shouldering all these tasks, TruVidia Manager, as the network command center, simplifies the work in the operating room. Convenience in use
TruVidia Manager makes simple data management in the OR a matter of routine, and no longer just a dream for the future. The control concept follows the sequence of procedures in the operating room. At the start of surgery, a clear structured user interface is used to assign all the video signal sources to the displays, according to the surgeon’s preferences. During the course of the operation, stills and video sequences can be recorded and archived with just a few quick commands. Interfaces to the HIS and RIS enable direct acquisition of patient data. Video conferencing can also be used, letting persons outside the OR – in the lecture theater, for instance – observe the proceedings. TruVidia Manager offers HD 1080 quality throughout – the maximum resolution possible today, and even does this via two autonomous channels. Viewers obtain high-resolution insights and can send comments and questions back to the OR with crystal-clear audio.

Modular installation
Three units form the basis for the functions integrated into TruVidia Manager: video routing, documentation and communication. These modules can be purchased either individually or as a complete system. For instance, the user can opt to use only the video routing module or the communications module and then retrofit the documentation module at a later time. The equipment is designed so as to be physically slender, saving space and energy. The modules can be mounted outside the OR in a separate TruVidia Manager rack. They may also be placed on an equipment cart inside the OR.

Intuitive operation
In the era of smartphones and iPads, the most important factor for the users is simple, easy-to-learn system control. With its clear focus on the basic functions, described and visualized with unambiguous terms and colors, TruVidia Manager offers precisely that degree of simplicity at a central touch screen. This is an intuitive, ergonomically sensible user interface that responds quickly. Without having to read exhaustive, detailed instructions beforehand, the surgical staff can use the TruVidia Manager almost immediately, after just a brief introduction. Where necessary, each step in the work provides a “preview” mode. Thus the user can keep track of what is happening and initiate the next step with full confidence.

Based on system software optimized for use in the operating room, TruVidia Manager is a fast and crash-resistant system. Consistently developed for use in the medical field, it can easily be integrated into existing ORs and their systems. All the individual components are engineered to process HD1080p and guarantee perfect high-definition image quality – during data routing, in documentation and for communications purposes, too. The video signals are transmitted through high-quality standard network technology, promising reasonable installation costs and low expenditures for system maintenance and service.
