Frost & Sullivan Presents: Five Leadership Awards for Philips
05/03/2004
Frost & Sullivan, a leader in growth consulting, today announced that it has presented five awards to Royal Philips Electronics (NYSE:PHG, AEX:PHI), medical systems division, for technology and services innovation and industry leadership. In announcing the awards, Frost & Sullivan recognized Philips for making an outstanding contribution to the global cardiac resuscitation, and medical imaging industries and for establishing leadership across these markets.
Frost & Sullivan chose Philips for each award after conducting interviews with numerous market participants, customers and suppliers, along with extensive secondary and technology research.
"We are thrilled to present these awards to Philips for its thoughtful contributions to the medical industry," said Manoj Kenkare, director of the Healthcare Research Group at Frost & Sullivan. "For instance, by taking care to design its HeartStart Home Defibrillator specifically for the home and making it easy and safe to use, Philips has given lay people the ability to assist sudden cardiac arrest victims within the critical first few minutes, to help improve survival. With the Philips HeartStart Home Defibrillator, friends and family members can now be prepared to help save a life."
Frost & Sullivan recognized Philips in the following categories: Technology Leadership; New Care Setting of the Year; Services Innovation Leadership; Medical Imaging Company of the Year; and Medical Imaging Technology of the Year.
"We proudly accept the Frost & Sullivan Awards as an independent validation of Philips business and technology leadership," said Jouko Karvinen, president and CEO of Philips Medical Systems. "Philips has a long history of superior product design and customer service. These five awards are further indicators that Philips continues to set the industry standard for developing innovative products that help treat patients and save lives."
Technology Leadership
This award acknowledges Philips for its pioneering efforts to develop new defibrillation technologies and to bring innovative products to market. Specifically, Philips is recognized for being the first to introduce biphasic technology and to implement it across an entire product line; the first to market an automated external defibrillator designed specifically for the targeted and lay responder enabling broad implementation in those markets; and the first manufacturer to gain FDA clearance for the use of automated external defibrillators on infants and young children. The award also lauds Philips for relinquishing its rights to U.S. patent protection on paediatric pad technology in order to encourage the development of similar technology for competitive automated external defibrillators.
New Care Setting of the Year
This award distinguishes Philips for the introduction of the HeartStart Home Defibrillator, the first of a new generation of defibrillators designed specifically for the home. Frost & Sullivan identifies the HeartStart Home Defibrillator as a catalyst for redefining the treatment methodology currently accepted by the medical community because of its ability to expand the capabilities of medical technology. Frost & Sullivan also credits Philips for its ongoing commitment to public health as well as its public awareness campaign to educate the public about the importance of early access to defibrillation.
Services Innovation Leadership
Philips has been awarded the 2004 Frost & Sullivan Award for Services Innovation Leadership in PACS - European PACS Market Review. This is a result of high levels of customer satisfaction for users of its family of image management systems and in recognition of the work that Philips has performed in creating and deploying innovative information technology professional services, including implementation, integration and consulting as well as highly regarded customer care systems. This award recognized and highlighted the importance of early initiatives taken by Philips and the successes that the company has achieved on implementing an innovative feedback system, setting the trend for others to follow.
Medical Imaging Company of the Year
Frost & Sullivan recognizes Philips for demonstrating unparalleled excellence as an overall business unit in the critical areas of business development, competitive strategy and customer service. The award also credits Philips for exhibiting outstanding management, consistent growth, strong sales performance, high quality products and services and a positive social and economic impact on local and national communities. This award solidifies Philips as the worldwide leader in the highly competitive medical imaging equipment global markets.
Medical Imaging Technology of the Year
This award recognizes Philips Medical Systems for its new, innovative Live 3D Echo ultrasound technology. Frost & Sullivan expects that this technology will eventually become the gold standard for echocardiography as its benefits are further proven in the clinical setting.
