Our miniaturized sensor detects specific molecules in gases. The development was described in the article "Helicobacter pylori Breath Test via Mid-Infrared Sensor Technology". The sensor concept is based on miniaturized, substrate-integrated hollow light waveguides that allow highly sensitive and selective analysis of samples.
Its use in respiratory gas diagnostics is particularly promising. In future, the technology could help to detect diseases such as cancer at an early stage using specific biomarkers in the breath - a fast, non-invasive and patient-friendly alternative to conventional diagnostic methods.
