Device Coatings

NTTF Coatings GmbH located in Bonn, Germany, is a leading authority on Plasma Coatings and Plasma treatment of Medical Devices.

TiXX Coatings Ltd. is a coating company specialized in Parylene Coatings. The different Parylene Coatings offer a thermal stability up to 300 °C, they protect against humidity and dust, they are optically transparent, bio-compatible and have been approved by the US FDA.

As medical devices become more sophisticated our understanding of the interaction between our “synthetic” world and human physiology continues to grow. The need to insulate the body from the devices we are inserting into it has created a whole new field of science. In some cases this research has created new device opportunities.

Coatings are now possible which:

  • add lubricity to the device enabling improved minimally invasive procedures
  • provide reducing clotting and infection control
  • contain active ingredients such as drugs, proteins and even active DNA.

Braxton Manufacturing Co. Inc.

Starting with flat stock, Braxton provides the deep-drawn advantage from subminiature to complex parts.

Compared to screw machines, plastic extrusions, tubing and stampings, Braxton’s deep-drawing techniques offer many benefits:

Starting with flat stock and ending with a tubular part, this process minimizes material waste.

Superior part-to-part and batch-to-batch repeatability are assured.

Slitting, flaring and hole punching, normally considered secondary operations, can be performed on the drawing machine.

Intricate designs not previously possible can be produced.

Raw material is work-hardened during the drawing process, therefore eliminating the need for secondary heat treating on most finished parts.

Starting stock can be clad or pre-plated with gold prior to the deep-draw process, guaranteeing even coverage of gold on both the OD & ID of microminiature tubes with or without a closed end as small as 0.005″ (0.13mm) ID. This process also eliminates the threat of residual acid trapped in the parts, a type of contamination that is commonly found in the barrel plating process.

Braxton’s proprietary drawing machines are built in-house. Coupled with the advanced in-house carbide die making facilities, Braxton’s drawing machines enable them to produce parts in more sizes, and with significantly superior tolerances and finishes, in comparison to competing processes.

Capabilities:

  • Multiple Diameters
  • Slotting
  • Tabs
  • Shaped Flanges
  • Shaped Piercing
  • Tapers
  • Side Holes
  • Bead Diameters
  • Crimp Forming

ProMed Medical Solutions

ProMed has been specializing in the molding of small, silicone components for Class III, long term implants since 1989. Silicone molded components are processed within one of several Class 10,000 clean-rooms using the technology required to support your design, material selection, and cost-structure requirements. Their New Product Development process has supported thousands of parts and welcomes the opportunity to launch your product(s) successfully. Additionally, ProMed has two manufacturing sites with one location in Minneapolis, MN and the second in Dorado, Puerto Rico.

Silicone has unique material characteristics that enable parts to be molded with intricate features, significant undercuts, surface finishes, and tight tolerances. ProMed offers custom compounding to meet the performance essentials of your design.
Liquid Injection Molding (LIM)
This process utilizes a liquid silicone rubber (LSR) which results in a short molding cycle enabling a cost effective part. This material and process is typically used for medium to high production runs.

High Consistency Injection Molding
Very similar to LIM molding except the material is a high consistency rubber (HCR – “gum-stock” rubber).

Transfer Molding
Typically consists of “transferring” a high consistency rubber (commonly referred to as a HCR or “gum-stock”) silicone from the exterior of a mold through a sprue and runner system into the cavities of a mold.

RTV (Room Temperature Vulcanisation) Casting
ProMed has developed the ability to compound and deliver 2-part RTV compounds in a closed delivery system.

Micro Molding
A common definition for a micro-molded part is typically a part with a mass of 1 gram or less or a part with a total volume of less than 0.003 cubic inches. To put this in perspective, a micro-molded part can be smaller than a piece of rice or a resin pellet.
Whether your micro-molded part material is a silicone or a thermoplastic material, ProMed’s qualified engineering staff can assist in design for manufacturability of your micro-molded part. Common elements for consideration will be material selection, tolerances, gate size and location, part ejection, length to diameter ratios and component configuration for moldability.
